PODIUM FOR MARC MÁRQUEZ IN JEREZ

Repsol Honda Team rider conclude Spanish Grand Prix 3rd and leading the World Championship by 17 points.

The fourth round of the MotoGP World Championship ended with a positive result for the Repsol Honda Team rider, with Marc Marquez placed on the podium to pick up important points for the overall standings. On the second lap, Marquez passed his teammate and the positions remained the same until the chequered flag was waved. Following the Spanish Grand Prix, Marquez still leads the series with 82 points.

Marc Marquez: “Honestly, today Valentino [Rossi] was on another level, like I was in Austin, and the most important thing is that today we accepted finishing third in the race. I learned a lot from last year and I didn’t want to make a mistake. I was very focused from the start and I tried to ride strongly and stay with Jorge [Lorenzo], but I could tell that with the higher track temperatures – 11º C higher than yesterday – it was very difficult for me to manage the front tyre well. I almost crashed several times, so in the end I made a difficult decision in front of our fans, as we preferred to secure 16 points that will be very positive at the end of the season, which is very long. We must have patience until we take a step further with the bike’s acceleration and find something else that allows us to fight for the win.

MARC MÁRQUEZ TAKE ON HOME RACE

Marc Marquez has two victories from a possible three in 2016 and has climbed the podium in the last four Jerez races, winning in 2014.

After an excellent start to the season in Qatar, Argentina and the United States, Marc Marquez returns to Europe leading the MotoGP World Championship and aiming to extend his advantage. The Circuito de Jerez is the venue for the first of eleven consecutive races in Europe, and has provided some fond memories for the Repsol Honda rider. At a circuit where the fans enthusiastically support the home riders, Marquez will feed off the energy of the crowd this weekend.

Marc Marquez: “We’re very happy to head to Jerez with a small advantage in the championship standings because I think our rivals are going to be very strong there. I’m also very happy with the work we’re carrying out with Honda and my team because we’ve improved step by step at every race: we found a good base setup in Qatar and we further bettered it slightly in several areas, such as engine braking and electronics, in Argentina and Texas. Anyway, there’s still work to do and margin for improvement, especially in acceleration. Besides this, the tracks are different in Europe—narrower, with a different tarmac—so we have to wait and see how we can manage the situation. Of course I love to be back in Spain after three flyaway races. Racing in front of my home crowd and my fan club is always very nice and gives me a special emotion and extra motivation.

TENTH VICTORY FOR MARC MARQUEZ IN THE USA

Repsol Honda Team rider claims fourth win at the Circuit of The Americas –his tenth on North American soil.

Marc Marquez returns to Europe with a successful haul from the MotoGP World Championship’s American leg, following up on his win last weekend in Argentina with a victory in the USA this Sunday. The Repsol Honda rider now has an amazing ten straight victories Stateside –eight in MotoGP, and two in Moto2. Starting from pole position, Marquez took the holeshot in the race and led from the first lap to the chequered flag. With this result, Marquez tops the overall standings with 66 points.

Marc Marquez: “I’m very happy with how the whole weekend has gone. This is a circuit that I like, one of my favourite, but there were some unknowns here because just before the race we decided to run the soft front tyre. In the end the team advised me very well, because the change gave me the good feeling with the bike that I had partly lost in the warm-up. I have to thank them all, as well as the Michelin technician. When I asked, they told me that I would be okay for the first 12-15 laps, and then after that I would have to manage the situation more, which is exactly what happened. We’ve taken another victory here in Austin and are now on a run of four in a row, which is great. In addition, the joy of the team after we won illustrates everything we’re working on. In these first three races of the year, we’ve made good use of the situations that we’ve encountered.”

MARC MARQUEZ HEADS TO ‘HIS’ CIRCUIT AS SERIES LEADER

On the first visit to the Circuit of the Americas in 2013, Marc Marquez achieved his first win in MotoGP. He repeated the feat in both 2014 and 2015.

Marc Marquez’s victory at the Argentinian Grand Prix take the pair into the third round of the season in good form. Next up on the calendar is the Grand Prix of the Americas. The event becomes the only MotoGP race held in the USA this season, but it is in Austin, Texas, that Marc Marquez has enjoyed special success in previous years. In 2013, Marquez took his first victory in the premier class at the track. He repeated victory in 2014 and a year ago, Marquez managed another win. After intensive preseason work and looking to continue development of their Honda bike for this season, Marquez comes to Austin first in the overall standings.

Marc Marquez: We’ll see how we manage in Austin this year. It’s a track that I like, where I feel strong, and where I’ve always had good races and good fun. That said, the track rewards strong acceleration, which hasn’t been one of our strongest points so far this year, so we’ll have to wait and see how we can manage the situation. We’ll keep working hard, as we did in Argentina, and we’ll try to find the best pace for the Sunday race.

MARQUEZ WINS IN ARGENTINA FOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD

Repsol Honda Team rider wins tough race which includes a bike change and leads the provisional World Championship standing.

Marc Marquez took a thrilling victory at the Argentinian Grand Prix. Cervera rider fought back from fourth position at the end of Lap 1 –after being hit by Andrea Iannone– to first in just three laps. He would then withstand a push from Valentino Rossi until the moment in which a mandatory bike change was required –after which Marquez extended his lead with every lap to cross the finish line alone. After these results, Marquez occupies first place in the overall standings.

Marc Marquez: “I’m really happy with this win because we’ve worked very, very hard during the pre-season, in Qatar and here. Honda is working very well and I feel the support; we’re going in the same direction, and that’s the most important thing. It’s a special win, not only because it’s the first one of the year but also because with the team, we managed the situation very well, and after what happened in Australia on a similar occasion [in 2013], it was important for us to do well. I knew that the first part of the race would be tough because it was still damp in some places, and with the first bike I hadn’t felt as good as with the other one even during practice. I knew that the second part of the race was the key. I pushed 100% in the first five laps after the bike change, I opened a gap and after that I just kept the distance.
