VICTORY AND REINFORCED LEADERSHIP FOR MÁRQUEZ IN ARAGÓN

Márquez took his fifth victory of the season and reinforces his lead in the standings, where now stands at 16 points ahead of Andrea Dovizioso.

Marc Márquez: “I’m very very happy with this victory because it was a tough race. Yesterday I wasn’t feeling totally comfortable with the bike, and today I was struggling again except in the warm-up; I don’t really know why. Anyway, racing at one of my favourite tracks, close to my home and in front of my fans, gave me extra motivation. I pushed hard and in some corners I just clicked the off-button in my head, even if I crashed twice yesterday. I saw that Viñales and Dovizioso were struggling a bit and knew it was the moment to push, so I did. There were a few scary moments, once when I was trying to overtake Valentino; he was tighter in that corner than I was expecting, and to avoid a clash I released the brakes, only to realize that Lorenzo was right there! So I went off the track, and at that moment I cooled down a bit, even if I continued to try and close the gap. Once I passed Lorenzo, I had to keep going as I saw that Dani was coming very fast. Anyway, that’s the Marquez style! Of course it’s important to think of the Championship, but the situation now requires that we give it everything. So we’ll try to continue with the same motivation and mentality race by race, giving our 100 per cent.”

MÁRQUEZ LOOKING TO MAINTAIN LEADERSHIP IN ARAGON

Marc Márquez face the Aragón GP this weekend, a third Spanish round of the season and the last before the decisive triple flyaway.

The Cervera rider has always taken pole at MotorLand since his MotoGP debut: Four times between 2013 and 2016. He has also earned three victories: One in Moto2 and two in MotoGP.

Márquez has twice achieved a podium finish in all four Spanish races -in 2013 and 2016. This season he has been on the rostrum in the two rounds held so far: The Spanish GP and the Catalan GP.

Marc Márquez: “This Championship is amazing, so close! At Misano we returned to the top of the Championship, equal on points with Dovi, and our other title rivals aren’t far away at all. The last five races will be very intense and hard-fought; we must keep working hard. I’m happy to go to Aragón this weekend. This is one of my favourite tracks on the calendar, and we’ll try to give 100% in front of our home fans and fight for the victory like we did at Misano. We’ll push from FP1 until the last lap of the race!”

MARC MÁRQUEZ TAKES SPECTACULAR VICTORY AND WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD

Márquez regains the series lead by pulling level on 199 points with Andrea Dovizioso -third today.

Marc Márquez sets the fastest lap of the race -1:47.069- on his last lap, after overtaking Petrucci on his way to his fourth win of the season.

Marc Márquez: “This was one of the best races of my career. It gave me an amazing feeling because it required incredible concentration to manage the tension the whole time. It was very easy to make a mistake, and that’s why I decided to attack only on the final lap. That lap was amazing; I took many risks, but with such a close season, it was worth trying to get the five extra points for the win. Of course I was thinking about the Championship the whole race. At the beginning the feeling wasn’t so good, probably because there was so much water on the track, and I had a couple of very scary moments. Lorenzo was amazingly fast early on, and so was Danilo later when he took the lead after Jorge’s crash, but I was able to follow him and finally to attack. Thanks to the team for the great job. I’m happy for everyone after what happened at Silverstone. We always try to be ready for every situation, so because we knew that changing the setup from wet to dry takes quite a long time at this track, we agreed that if I felt the track was drying, and there was even a small possibly of a flag-to-flag race, I would signal the team. So I did, and even if in the end that didn’t happen, it was right to do so as we got close to it. This Championship is amazing; anything can happen, but now we’ve returned to the top, equal on points with Andrea. The last five races will be very tough, but we’ll keep pushing and give it our 100%. Finally, I wish to congratulate Toni Bou for his 22nd title, it’s just amazing. Keep doing like that, Toni!”

MÁRQUEZ EAGER TO RIDE IN MISANO AFTER SILVERSTONE KO

The 2017 MotoGP season moves into its final third with the Gran Premio di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini this weekend, and never before has the title chase been so tight, with the top five riders in the MotoGP Championship covered by only 35 points after 12 races.

Marc in second place, nine points behind leader Andrea Dovizioso. After a tough race at Silverstone, Marc looks forward to again fighting at the front this Sunday at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, a track where he has great records and where, on 20 August, he spent his fifth and final allotted day of private testing for the year.

Marc Marquez has 4 wins, 1×125 (2010), 2xMoto2 (2011, 2012), and 1xMotoGP (2015), plus 1 podium and 3 pole positions.

Marc Marquez: “We’ll try and have a great weekend in Misano, putting the last race behind us. The important thing is that lately we’ve been competitive at all kinds of tracks, so now we go to Misano, which has a twisty, tight layout, with the same approach and mentality that have worked very well for us so far. We’ll look to be as strong as possible, not with victory as the only target but ready to fight for it if we have the opportunity to do so. We’ll work to get the best result possible. We had a positive test there in August, so we’ll go there ready to start well beginning on Friday morning.”
